For hundreds of years fine letterers worked to create the most beautiful scrolls and documents for every type of important writing from Popes to Kings. Using a dip pen and beautiful inks, we will study the art of Spencerian Lettering. This is a fine art form that, with time, you will master using the pen to go from thin to thick letterforms using only the pressure of your hand.

You will love the simplicity of this fine art form. All you need is a pen, good ink, paper and your knowledge of the designs of the letterforms. We will work with a pencil to get the understanding of letters as we start to master the pressure of the hand to create the thicks and thins of these forms. A number two pencil is all you need to start creating beautiful letters.

Today penmanship and letter writing are having a wonderful resurgence. It is so impressive when we receive a beautiful hand written note in the mail... rather than an email. With practice, you will see fast progress as you begin to use fine lettering in your everyday writings.
